CITR Chapter 21-26 Response

I think Holden finally went over the edge in the last chapters of the book. He finally decided to just leave everything and his sister changed what he thought so he broke down and got "sick". Holden is a very depressed man and can't figure out that there is so many people that are trying to help him and he rejects everything that comes to him when he gets help. Holden will never be sane unless he lets people in and can accept the past and what has all happened to him.

CITR Chapter 26

In the conclusion of the story Holden says he is telling this story that he went home and got sick so the sent him to the rest home. He says that his brother D.B. comes to visit him often and he is going to a different school in the fall and he thinks he might try it out. He doesn't like to talk about anything that happened cause it makes him remember about all the people in the story which makes him very sad.

CITR Chapter 25

In this chapter Holden stays on a bench until the next day when he decides to leave. He then goes to Phoebes school so that he can leave her a note to meet him at the museum so he can give her her money back. When he is at the museum and at the school he sees the words f you written on the walls and it makes him very depressed. Phoebe finally comes and he tells her he is leaving and she should come with him, but she gets angry with him and objects. He then decides to take her to the zoo and she decides to go, but doesn't walk with him.

CITR Chapter 24

When Holden arrives at his teachers house they are just cleaning up after a dinner party and Holden sits down to talk with his old teacher. They first talk about his school and that he dropped out. The conversation gets more serious when Holden once again doesn't like it. His teacher tells him a bunch of reasons why he should go back to school and Holden finally likes the talk when he decides he should go to bed. Holden then wakes up with his teacher stroking his hair and he thinks he is being gay so he leaves.

CITR Chapter 23

In this chapter Holden gives his old teacher Mr. Autolini a call and he invites him to stay over and chat. Holden then dances with Phoebe until their parents arrive and he hides in the closet until they tuck her in. He then leaves and Phoebe gives Holden her saved up Christmas money and he tells her his plan to move far away.

CITR Chapter 22

Holden finally is able to talk to Phoebe after explaining why he hated the school so much. She asked him what did he not hate as he was very upset he didn't answer as his mind trailed off thinking about the nuns and a boy who committed suicide. Holden finally admits he likes Allie and she tells him he is dead and what is he gonna do with his life. Holden then sings her the song he heard on the street and she corrects him with the actual lyrics. He imagines himself saving children from falling off a rye field so that he is the catcher in the rye.
